Introduction
A new motoring challenge for Electric, Hybrid and Low-Emission ICE vehicles to use the lowest energy on a 60 mile route from Madeira Drive, Brighton to Pall Mall & Regent Street, London - Welcome to The Royal Automobile Club's first promotion and demonstration of new clean-energy motor cars. An event that heralds tomorrow's pioneering technology.
Future motoring technology is now in abundance and as new low-energy vehicles roll off production lines in volume the roadside infrastructure to fuel them is gradually expanding across our road network.
Yet for the daily motorist there remains uncertainty on what the advantages are and which alternative-fuel method is best. The opportunity to promote and demonstrate these new low-energy vehicles 'live' is important, and this public road showcase event from a major city to the capital provides a unique platform to promote a powerful communication to the potential market and its media.
On Saturday 14 November 1896, 33 pioneering motorists set off in a variety of innovative 19th Century horseless carriages, from the Metropole Hotel London, to the Metropole Hotel Brighton to demonstrate and promote the capabilities of the motor car invention. In addition, they celebrated the new road-act of that year which increased the speed limit from 4mph to 14mph and abandoned the need for a man on foot waving a red flag, to precede each motor vehicle. The wide variety of participating motor cars included electric, steam and internal combustion engine propulsion technology.
115 years later, the motor industry faces a new but similar challenge - to find the next mass production new-energy power source for the 21st Century. The Club's Future Car Challenge provides a unique platform for today's motoring pioneers to prove and promote their new-energy vehicles for the future.
The Royal Automobile Club of Pall Mall London, the proprietors of the world's longest running motoring event - the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, is proud to promote the RAC Future Car Challenge (FCC) for a second year. FCC is a new initiative which will be staged each year during the same November weekend as the Veteran Car Run to actively promote, demonstrate and challenge new low-energy technology and echo the pioneering start of motoring in 1896. Just as the pioneering 19th Century event demonstrated the capabilities of the new found horseless carriage, this new 21st Century event provides the platform to demonstrate the first radical change of the power of motor vehicles since that time.
Politicians, industry groups, other influential leaders and the media will be encouraged to participate, and along with entrants invited to a special post-event RAC Future Car Challenge Awards Dinner at The Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall, London.
We encourage entries with media editors and VIP guests/celebrities along with their families, to participate and drive the event for maximum opportunity. An extensive media programme with specialist, non-specialist and lifestyle pre and post event coverage will be employed for the best possible TV and national news exposure.
